bright red

us

cinders simply smoldering

  while the brushwood

      lays stacked in the shed

with

one venturing

   to fuel the flames

     the other hastily dowsing 

although

not snuffing it out

   no, not completely

      not that last ember

rather

adding small bits

   fruitless efforts

      to tame the conflagration

however 

flames such as this

   cannot be kept as pets

      like a candle on the mantle

and

the radiance

  will not be tamed

      it cannot be diminished

for

there is merely one shade

   this timber burns

      bright red
